All the Wild and Holy: A Life of Eunice Williams, 1696-1785.(2017) Awarded the National Poetry Book Prize from North Street Books, and Honorable Mention for the May Sarton Poetry Prize (Bauhan Publishing). A book length persona poem in the voice of Eunice from the age of seven until her death at 89. Research for the book took place over a period of 12 years during which Gayle learned details about the Puritan culture and its treatment of women, the Abenaki tribe where Eunice spent several weeks of her trip, the Catholic culture of Montreal, and the Mohawks in Caughnawaga, southwest of Montreal where Eunice spent her life and became a Clan Mother.
